Google Moving Beyond Search – Is "Google WiFi" On the Way?

"Google Secure Access" Is Designed to "Establish a More Secure Connection While Using Google WiFi"

Is Google going to move beyond its core Internet search service and enter the ultra-competitive world of ISPs and telco giants? An FAQ page at the Google site suggests so.

Although http://wifi.google.com still currently resolves back to the Google main page, anyone browsing to https://wifi.google.com/download.html is rewarded with the sight of a Google beta page that leads to a dialog box.

There is an FAQ available too, which reads as shown in full below. In one key passage, it says "One of our engineers recognized that secure WiFi was virtually non-existent at most locations. As a result, he used his 20% project time to begin an initiative to offer users more secure WiFi access. Google Secure Access is the result of this endeavor."

Currently only two sites close to the Google Headquarters are equipped with Google WiFi access points for what the company calls a "limited test" of its wireless Internet service. A Google spokes person has been quoted today as saying "Google WiFi is a community outreach program to offer free wireless access in areas near our headquarters".

Here is the FAQ in full:

What sort of information does Google have access to?

If you choose to use Google Secure Access, your internet traffic will be encrypted and sent through Google's servers to the Internet. Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
