Morphlabs Enables Mission Critical Deployments Over the Public Cloud

Morphlabs, a leading provider of private and public cloud infrastructure, announced today a new cloud management platform called mCloud On-Demand. mCloud On-Demand is an operational management environment that leverages Amazon’s EC2 cloud service to deliver enterprise-class applications over the public cloud.

According to a report from research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), the public IT cloud services will grow at more than five times the projected growth rate for traditional IT products over the next 5 years. [IDC- Press Release, Through 2014 Public IT Cloud Services Will Grow at More Than Five Times the Rate of Traditional IT Products, New IDC Research Finds, According to IDC, June 23, 2010.] "Our forecast shows that public IT cloud services are currently 'crossing the chasm,' with modest revenue but very fast growth," said Frank Gens, senior vice president and chief analyst at IDC. [IDC- Abstract, Worldwide and Regional Public IT Cloud Services 2010-2014 Forecast, According to IDC, June 2010.]

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the largest provider of public cloud computing services, and its leading product, EC2, provides resizable compute capacity in the public cloud for companies of all sizes. According to David Linthicum, CTO and founder of Blue Mountain Labs, and cloud computing thought leader: “The truth of the matter is that Amazon is already sneaking into larger enterprises to displace larger systems development technology.” [The Stealthy Rise of the Public Cloud]

Morphlabs is an AWS Solutions Provider and has been developing scalable solutions using the Amazon platform since 2007. mCloud On-Demand provides significant control over Amazon EC2 to deliver the power of Enterprise Cloud Architecture (ECA) and provide an integrated cloud stack for deploying, managing and monitoring enterprise class applications. The end result is that clouds built using ECA are reliable, automated, elastic and portable.

“Morphlabs intends to provide an architecture for mission critical applications whether they are in public or private clouds,” said Winston Damarillo, CEO of Morphlabs. “With mCloud On-Demand, we are extending Amazon’s capabilities to give developers more control over the operations and management of their public cloud infrastructure.”

Additional features of mCloud On-Demand include:

  • Graphical cloud design—mCloud On-Demand makes cloud design easy for users with a simple drag-and-drop interface, and by providing ready-made server templates for Ruby, PHP, Java, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Simplified application deployment—mCloud On-Demand shortens the application deployment process and automatically distributes the application into different zones to increase reliability.
  • Management dashboard—mCloud On-Demand’s Dashboard enables users to visualize the health of clouds, virtual machines and applications in a single glance.
  • Self-healing and failover—When a virtual machine or application fails, mCloud On-Demand automatically restores it without any human intervention to ensure uninterrupted access. In addition, both data and applications are backed up continuously.

To support mCloud On-Demand, Morphlabs is launching the mCloud On-Demand Community, a new interactive community to provide support to users and serve as a news aggregator and forum for cloud computing. The community is free and open to all mCloud On-Demand users and the general public. mCloud On-Demand, and access to 24x7 technical support, will be free during the initial beta period.

To sign up and begin using mCloud On-Demand, please visit the online registration page. For additional information, contact Morphlabs at 310-437-8001 or [email protected].

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
