Cloud Computing: Managed Methods and RackSpace Partnership

Managed Methods enters RackSpace Cloud hosting partner program

Managed Methods on Tuesday announced they have entered into the Partner Program with RackSpace Hosting, (NYSE: RAX), a specialist in the hosting and cloud computing industry. This relationship is designed to add mutual value for their current clients and to increase targeted exposure and reputation for both companies.

Now companies that are building services and APIs in the RackSpace cloud will be able to secure, monitor, govern those services using CloudGate SaaS service which is co-located at the RackSpace public cloud infrastructure.

"As companies move their services into public clouds there is an increased need for governance," said Al Aghili, CTO at Managed Methods. "CloudGate allows the consumers of services hosted in the RackSpace cloud infrastructure to use a SaaS service to easily secure, monitor and govern those environments with a solution that is simple to deploy. The consumer is not tied down to a large purchase and has the flexibility to only pay for what they need."

"We are seeing a large increase in number of services deployed in our cloud infrastructure, and tools such as CloudGate are needed to secure, monitor and govern such services in a cost effective and comprehensive manner. We are delighted that companies such as Managed Methods can provide such offering for our customers" said Robert Fuller, VP of World Wide Alliances at RackSpace.

Visibility and control is paramount to the success of any SOA initiative, particularly services are running in public clouds. However, many times it is pushed down the priority stack because of the cost and effort of deploying traditional governance solutions which require significant effort during installation and testing. CloudGate addresses these cost issues with a SaaS implementation that dramatically simplifies and streamlines deployment.

Key Features in CloudGate:

  • Comprehensive Monitoring of Real User usage of service applications CloudGate can monitor, report, alert on end to end activities of real consumers accessing your service application.
  • SLA Management Manage consumer SLA baselines based on usage, performance and a whole host of other parameters
  • Security Federation. CloudGate can support advanced security federation standards, providing enterprise-class token, authorization, Single Sign On, Encryption, Digital Signatures, and PKI capabilities for SOA and Cloud Services.
  • Embedded Secure Token Service. CloudGate can integrate with external Secure Token Services for authentication and Token Mapping. In 6.0 we have created an embedded Secure Token Service for token generation. So one instance of CloudGate can be setup to be a secure token service while others perform security federation.
  • Service Virtualization. CloudGate allows you to create virtual services from artifacts of other services. So you can create a service which includes operations from multiple other services. This also includes dynamic WSDL generation for those service.
  • Database Services. CloudGate allows you to create a web based service for your databases. So the Web Service clients can send requests to CloudGate in HTTP SOAP and CloudGate will execute the query or Stored Procedure on the back end in jdbc and send a http SOAP response back to the client.
  • JMS Service Virtualization Convert any JMS topic or Queue into a Web service with dynamic WSDL generation.
  • Compliance (Auditing) CloudGate stores all message communications between the consumer and providers of the service and allows for reporting such as audit reports

CloudGate is available on the RackSpace public cloud infrastructure. CloudGate is purchased through subscription starting at $400/month. You can find the complete pricing and a free trial of CloudGate by visiting www.managedmethods.com.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing.
