Arizona Charter School Moving to the Cloud

Charter Schools takes on new creative way to serve their parent guardian community through a cloud solution

Not just any kind of web portal, the creators VICO Systems LLC, develop a very customized portal called the VICO iSchool Parent / Guardian webportal.

VICO iSchoolThe immediate benefit to the users, it provides a single location to access all of the schools communications, resources, and services. This allows parents to stay better informed with communications, manage tasks, purchase goods and services directly through a secure shopping cart, enroll in school programs, and visit a current calendar of events.

Director of school Development at The Odyssey Preparatory Academy, Kevin Johnson, stated, “Since we have experienced such quick growth over the least 3 years, we needed a complete web controlled solution, that will make it easy for parents to access, and provided a high-level of functionality for our expanding student body.” Johnson also stated, “We now are able to eliminate hours of processing paper checks. Also important, is providing an online location for donors to contribute their Arizona State Tax dollars directly to our school, under the Arizona State Tax Credit Program. This feature along with VICO Systems’s creative social marketing solutions, increases our ease for collecting the tax free contributions! The Portal systems is an extremely powerful enterprise cloud computing based solution. The school has access to very robust CRM and Inventory Management systems. Document Management and Project Management tools are all available within their platform, working in conjunction with all other applications. No need for the purchase of addition software. If the client currently has other software such as a student grading system, it can incorporate nicely within the VICO iSchool portal.

Johnson comments; "being able to have services changed, items completely separated in minutes, and all our main campus managers having access to the other schools as needed, is so efficient." The managers like having their own mini control center, overseeing their inventory, contacts, order histories, all under the personal login.  Even the login logo is customized to their login page.  Parents find it much easier as well.  Since we have two separate campuses, and now adding a third, we where heading for some technology challenges.  After reviewing our challenges with VICO Systems, they put together 3 complete systems for each campus within 60 days.  Ready for the Fall 2011 school year.  They even added a  few cool additional features like their VICO iGift program.   That in and-of-itself, will help in supplying the school with needed ongoing fund raising campaigns."

Facebook Like The service allows for highly customized features. For example, each of the icon buttons within the portal have been customized down to the lunch bag.  For easy online ordering of lunches as well as services like the monthly bus transportation service.

The investment is comprised of an initial license and setup fee. Billed on a monthly subscription. Much like that of a cable company.  Thanks to the advancements in secured cloud computing solutions, what would have cost $100,000 or more, was now built for a fraction of that cost.  Plus, no need to invest in tons of servers and hardware.
