PAETEC Places Acme Packet in iPATH Service

Multiservice Acme Packet Net-Net Session Border Controllers Provide Security and Maximize Service Reach for Hosted VoIP, IP PBX

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/14/06 -- Acme Packet®, the leader in session border control solutions, today announced at Spring VON that PAETEC Communications, Inc. selected Acme Packet's Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) for its iPATH suite of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business services. The Net-Net SBCs are deployed as part of Lucent's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution and enable maximum service reach and network security at both access and interconnect borders in PAETEC's network.

Launched in January 2006, iPATH is a multi-faceted solution for medium to large businesses that is comprised of converged voice and data services with dynamic bandwidth allocation, hosted IP voice services and collaboration services. Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs, in high-availability configurations, are deployed in seven PAETEC PoPs and support three different services: hosted VoIP, enterprise IP PBX trunking and provider-to-provider interconnection.

PAETEC's iPATH network uses the Net-Net SBCs to minimize change at its customers' premises and speed time to market with Acme Packet's unique adaptive hosted NAT traversal feature. H.323 to SIP interworking and MPLS VPN bridging enable PAETEC to maximize its service reach for its PBX trunking service. Acme Packet features, including topology hiding, SBC denial-of-service (DoS) attack protection and prevention of DoS attacks and overloads for PAETEC's core VoIP infrastructure, provide a secure border for iPATH customers and service provider partners.

"Being able to sell our services to any business and securing our borders were of utmost importance in architecting iPATH. The security and reliability of voice traffic we deliver over our Private IP Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network -- not the public Internet -- is critical for enterprise customers," said Jack Baron, chief marketing and training officer at PAETEC. "The depth of the Net-Net SBC features for maximizing our service reach and securing our services along with the proven interoperability with the other service infrastructure elements in our network made Acme Packet an easy choice to fulfill the requirements for our VoIP services."

"As businesses continue to migrate toward IP communications, a secure and flexible next-generation voice service is a key differentiator for service providers and one of the factors for success," stated Andy Ory, president and CEO of Acme Packet. "PAETEC is bringing its feature-rich iPATH offerings to market with this in mind and Acme Packet will play a key role in enabling that security and flexibility."

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
