Want to Learn About Data Virtualization?

Data Virtualization Day 2011 is the Place to Go for the Latest Data Virtualization Trends

Want to Learn About Data Virtualization?
Is your organization considering adding data virtualization to your data integration, SOA, and cloud technology stack?

Or have you already started your data virtualization adoption journey?

Either way, Data Virtualization Day 2011 is the place to go for the latest Data Virtualization trends and insights.

Data Virtualization in the Big Apple!
The second annual Data Virtualization Day is October 13 in New York City.

The world's largest gathering of data virtualization experts and implementers is expected to draw over 150 attendees.

"Going Beyond Traditional Data Integration to Achieve Business Agility" will be the unifying theme across data virtualization presentations from Bank of America, Putnam Investments, Qualcomm, and more.

Advanced Data Virtualization Users Share Their Successes
The Data Virtualization Day agenda is highlighted by case study presentations from three of leading data virtualization adopters.

  • Ted Hills, Director of Enterprise Information Architecture at Bank of America, will present "Real Time is the Rule"
  • Arvinder Oberoi, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing Technology at Putnam Investments will speak on "Exploiting IT Agility to Perform at the Speed of Business"
  • Mark Morgan, Qualcomm Senior Manager, Enterprise Architecture Solutions will discuss "Moving at Lightning Speed - The Impact of Data Virtualization on Agility"

In addition, Dr. Michael Linhares, Ph.D and Research Fellow at Pfizer Inc. will participate with other presenters in a "Meet the Experts" session.  Linhares was instrumental in development of Pfizer's Research Information Factory (RIF), global reference data implementation, introduction of data federation and other enterprise data integration projects and will share his experiences in delivering agile business intelligence utilizing data virtualization. Dr. Linhares will also discuss his extensive experience in data management and dispel myths surrounding data virtualization.

Gartner's Mark Beyer Will Keynote
Gartner Research VP Mark Beyer will keynote the event, discussing the latest trends in data management, data integration and data warehousing in his talk entitled "Extreme Information Management and Logical Data Warehousing."  Beyer will also chair a panel discussion on "Going Beyond Traditional Data Integration to Achieve Business Agility."

Vendor Executives Round Out the Agenda
Composite Software, a leading vendor of the data virtualization technology, will also provide speakers.  CEO Jim Green will welcome Data Virtualization Day attendees with a company update, while CTO David Besemer will offer a Composite 6 status report and product road map.  Composite's Director of Customer Value, Bob Reary,  will also present customer awards for innovative data virtualization implementations.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...
The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully ...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
