Helping Application Producers and Enterprise IT Developers Migrate Their Apps to the Cloud and Virtual Environments
New release enables multi-platform installation development from a single project file across physical, cloud, and other virtual environments
Maidenhead, UK - October 16, 2012 Flexera Software, the leading provider of Application Usage Management solutions for application producers and enterprises, announced today the launch of InstallAnywhere 2012. This latest release streamlines the software deployment and installation process on-premises, in the cloud, and in enterprise virtual machine environments.
"Customers access our products in increasingly complex environments - from physical, traditional environments to cloud and virtual environments - and we need to make it easy for them," said Paul French, Vice President, Strategy & Markets, Axway. "Flexera Software understands this. InstallAnywhere, with its easy-to-use interface, is the engine that enables Axway to deliver a seamless, consistent user experience when deploying Axway Secure Client on various operating systems in multiple environments."
Multi-Platform, Multi-Environment Deployments Made Simple
InstallAnywhere 2012 with Cloud Pack enables the easy creation of cloud-ready images and enterprise-ready virtual appliances without requiring technical expertise by either the application producer or the end customer. It enables application producers to deploy applications automatically to Amazon EC2, facilitating migration to the cloud. It also enables producers to deploy those applications as enterprise-ready Virtual Appliances (Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) Open Virtualisation Format (OVF) 1.1 compliant) for easy provisioning to end customers' virtual machine infrastructure. OVF 1.1 is supported by leading vendors, including Citrix, Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, IBM, Oracle, OpenNode and VirtualBox.
Moreover, InstallAnywhere 2012 offers the most extensive platform support in the industry, including support for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, enabling application producers to release updates of their own products for all key platforms. Other new platforms versions supported in this latest release include Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), SUSE Linux 11.3, Ubuntu 12.04, Solaris 11 Sparc, HP-UX 11i, AIX 7.1, IBM i5/OS, Z/OS, RHEL 6 and Fedora 16.
"As an enterprise software solutions provider, providing software not only to our customers but to their customers by the 1000's, we must produce a seamless and uniform experience across diverse platforms while always staying current with support of the latest environments our customers are migrating to," said Paul French, Vice President, Strategy & Markets, Axway. "And migration-readiness means installation-readiness. InstallAnywhere gives us confidence that when deploying Axway Secure Client on new platforms, it will provide a seamless transition from one platform to another without a loss of data, functionality or user experience."
To minimise development complexity and optimise the user experience, InstallAnywhere empowers application producers to simultaneously develop installations for all target environments automatically, from a single project. This enables application producers to enter new markets previously prohibited due to installation complexity, allowing them, for instance, to create cloud-hosted/virtual machine evaluations, demonstrations and virtual labs in a controlled, pre-configured environment.
"Developing applications that run on multiple platforms and in multiple environments does little good if deploying those applications is overly cumbersome and complex - for either the application producer or their customer," said Maureen Polte, vice president of product management at Flexera Software. "InstallAnywhere 2012 is unique in that it enables the simultaneous creation of all types of installation packages - from on-premises to virtual and cloud-based - all from a single project file. No other installation development solution can do this."
Application Tagging Supports Customers' Software Compliance Efforts
Software "self-instrumentation" or software tagging is evolving as an industry standard, enabling application producers to create smarter applications that give application producers and enterprises better information about the software running. InstallAnywhere 2012 now is capable of creating ISO 19770-2 software identification tags as part of the installation development process. This helps application producers looking to accurately detect software products and versions installed on their customers' devices to support their compliance and support efforts. It also enables producers to provide more value to their customers by delivering better visibility into the installed software estate, facilitating better software license optimisation efforts.
Flexera Software also recently announced software tagging capabilities in the current versions of InstallShield, FlexNet Manager Suite for Enterprises, and AdminStudio Suite. Combined with today's announced enhancements to InstallAnywhere, Flexera Software now is the only company that offers a comprehensive, end-to-end tagging solution for the entire software lifecycle.
"Because Flexera Software is the leader in Application Usage Management with a deep understanding of software licensing management for both application producers and enterprises, we're in a unique position to lead in software tagging," said Polte. "Application producers can now automatically create and embed software tags into their on-premises, cloud-based and virtual applications. And enterprises can preserve and create custom tags in the application packaging process, and leverage those tags in their software license optimisation efforts."
