DALLAS, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ATERAS announced today a new project with one of the nation's largest pension systems to re-host its historical member data from a legacy mainframe Adabas database to a relational database structure while retaining the Natural-based applications look, feel and functionality on a Windows platform for use by pension members.

The existing Adabas/Natural-based applications and data will move from a mainframe environment to an off mainframe relational database and the ATERAS ATP® Natural Re-Hosting solution.
The Application Transparency Platform® is a revolutionary Natural application code Re-Hosting solution that provides much lower license costs, higher productivity and full preservation of legacy assets and business rules. ATP dramatically reduces the time for the replacement cycle and accelerates the return on investment. The ATP solution transforms Adabas databases and data to a relational database – DB2, SQL Server or Oracle – and processes Natural programming code using ATP Language (ATPLTM) on Windows.
"Our ATP Re-Hosting solution is a perfect fit for the historical pension environment" said Scott Miller, President and CEO of ATERAS. "Pension members will continue to have the same access to their historical data without the need for expensive licenses and without the expense of a lengthy conversion project."
In 2011, the existing mainframe based pension system was replaced with a new system, but members of the pension system continued to access their historical information through existing mainframe screens. Officials want to retire the mainframe hardware and software platform in the shortest possible timeframe but allow users continued access to the historical data, which prompted the contract with ATERAS.
"ATERAS' ATP re-hosting product is a proven approach for migrating Natural/Adabas applications to a Windows Server," said Bob Ellsworth, Microsoft Worldwide Director of Platform Modernization. "The decision to migrate the pension system using the ATERAS solution demonstrates the belief in this approach to deliver the desired TCO, with accelerated delivery and minimal risk."
With the ATERAS ATP developer environment, Natural programmers continue to program in their familiar language while enjoying a greatly enhanced IDE with additional tools and services.
