BEDFORD, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/27/13 -- EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of enterprise-class PostgreSQL products and Oracle database compatibility solutions, today announced technology executive Marc Linster, Ph.D., has joined as vice president of professional services. Linster, who reports to CEO Ed Boyajian, fills the vacancy created when Tom Kincaid became vice president of engineering in September 2012.
"Our growth in the past year has been spectacular and our customers now include 32 of the Fortune 500 and 47 of the Global 1000. These enterprises are looking to us for more than software; they need training, consulting and support," said Ed Boyajian, CEO of EnterpriseDB. "With his technical abilities and his management and operational experience, Marc is ideal for the task of expanding our professional services organization to meet our customer needs."
As the head of professional services, Linster will manage an expanding portfolio of products and services designed to support customer integrations and ensure end user success. Postgres has enjoyed a surge in interest and demand over the past two years, driving the need for complementary products, like Oracle migration consulting, specialized code development, training and ongoing support subscriptions.
"EnterpriseDB has achieved an enviable market presence and is well positioned to provide the support, training and services that some companies need when they migrate from costly, traditional databases to Postgres," said Linster. "I look forward to expanding what we have to offer and creating new products and services to evolve with the changing marketplace."
Linster joins EnterpriseDB after nearly four years at Polycom, where he served most recently as senior director of engineering in cloud and hosted solutions. This followed two years of managing operations in process reengineering, master data management and business intelligence. Prior to Polycom, Linster operated his own consulting firm for two years helping businesses address global supply chain challenges. This tapped the expertise he developed at Avicon Group, where he spent six years, first as chief technology officer then as vice president of operations. He began his career as a researcher and advanced to managing engineering groups. He earned his Ph.D. in computer science from Technische Universität Kaiserslautern in Germany.
