A report published by iHeed has shown mHealth and mobile health education can reduce the cost of frontline health worker training by 75 percent and rapidly increase the number of health workers via blended learning (i.e., leveraging visuals, video and audio), enhanced data collection and remote monitoring. The simple mobile phone is being used to provide a range of health services in some districts of Bihar, especially in maternal and childcare, an expert said in New Delhi. The “Ananya” program, run by BBC Media Action in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in eight districts of Bihar, aims to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health in the state. Few doctors make house calls, but remote patient monitoring (RPM) technologies are eliminating the need anyway. Distant caregivers can now more easily check up on patients without the need for a visit to the doctor's office or hospital.  U.S. sales of RPM systems are expected to jump to $21.2 billion in 2017 from $10.6 billion in 2012, according to medical research firm Kalorama Information.  Read Original Content
