According to a recently published mobile phone forecast from the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to surpass one billion units in 2013, representing 39.3 percent growth over 2012. Read Original Content

Apple has purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli firm that specializes in making 3D motion detection technology. PrimeSense is best known for developing gesture control for Microsoft's Kinect sensor, and has made strides towards bringing the technology to mobile.  Apple's deal is likely to spark speculation about its plans to develop new products such as Apple TV.  Read Original Content

According to a Radicati Group study the Enterprise Mobility Management market will reach $838 million by year-end 2013 and grow to over $3.1 billion by 2017, as more enterprises seek to protect and manage an increasingly mobile workforce.  Read Original Content

Market research firm NPD DisplaySearch predicts it will take less than five years for smartphones to make up over 80 percent of all mobile phone sales. Google-owned Motorola Mobility moved recently to shake up the global smartphone market with an entry-level handset aimed at cost-sensitive consumers around the world, many in emerging markets. Russia is one of the fastest growing markets in the mobile gaming industry, beaten only by the U.S. and China, reveals the Live Mobile! According analysts at ABI Research, Android smartphone OEMs are taking advantage of a solid presence among consumers and mobile business users to drive more business entity smartphone purchases and expand use in the enterprise.  ABI Research predicts shipment revenues from Android smartphones used by mobile business customers will grow from $54 billion in 2013 to over $92 billion globally by the end of 2018. Global smartphone sales are still going strong; 250 million smartphones were sold in the third quarter, up 46 percent year-over-year. The Asia-Pacific region is still leading the pack with an impressive 77 percent rise in smartphone sales. Indeed, smartphones seem ubiquitous in many parts of Asia.
