Last year was big in the cloud computing arena. Companies like 365 Media and ZettaGrid began using private cloud systems, providing better business agility at a lower TCO. Both companies utilized scale-out Ethernet storage solution company, Coraid, to build their customized cloud solutions.
In order to support cloud service providers, Coraid entered into partnerships with OpenStack vendors. In turn, Coraid provided drivers for Ethernet storage to the OpenStack Cinder project for block storage, ultimately enabling storage access over connectionless, massively parallel 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Additionally SUSE became the first Linux provider to incorporate Coraid's Ethernet drivers, which allow public, private, and hybrid open-source clouds to integrate with Coraid's EtherDrive and EtherCloud platforms scalable, automated storage services.
Coraid's modular, scale-out approach has helped service providers as well as enterprises have a better methodology to deploy storage for cloud architectures. The company's Ethernet storage technology has a well-documented track record in large-scale cloud architectures, providing a lower TCO.
Coraid has spent the last year focused on expanding the experience level of its leadership team to include Dave Kresse as CEO, Stewart Grierson as CFO, Keith Carpenter as vice president of worldwide sales, and Gail Boddy as vice president of human resources. The company also secured access to $29.3 million in additional financing in December of 2013.
In the 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant report for General-Purpose Disk Arrays, Coraid was placed in the "Visionaries Quadrant," based on Gartner's evaluation of "completeness of vision and ability to execute." According to the March 2013 Magic Quadrant report, "Gartner expects the advantages of the traditional high-end enterprise storage arrays to disappear within the next three to five years because the pace of innovation is occurring faster in the larger and more dynamic mid-range segment of the storage market." Coraid is poised for continued innovation in storage solutions for service providers and enterprises.
