Make the Holidays Brighter for Shoe Lovers on Your List

Make the Holidays Brighter for Shoe Lovers on Your List

CLEVELAND, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/11/06 -- Forget the traditional holiday sweater. Shoes are the craze these days for men and women alike. With 2005 U.S. footwear sales nearly $42 billion, chances are visions of wedges, ballet flats and boots are dancing in the head of someone on your holiday list.

But, can you buy shoes for someone else? "Buying shoes as a gift is difficult," says Meghan Cleary, America's favorite Shoe Therapist and author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You." "Instead try fun items that can complement one's shoe obsession." Meghan recommends:

-- Put stockings in their stockings. "Tights in deep jeweled tones like
plum and cobalt for women and luxurious cashmere socks for men (to match
the pants, not the shoes) are always a treat," Meghan says. "Tights for
women are a great way to enhance their existing shoe wardrobe, and there
are so many amazing colors and textures out there this season," she adds.

-- Shoe clips turn one pair into many. One pair of shoes suddenly has
endless looks with simple snap-on shoe clips. Choose beads, pearls,
rhinestones and add fashion-forward flair to any shoes. Purchase clips on-
line, or you can make your own using vintage earrings, Meghan notes.

-- Never fail with one-size-fits-all gift cards. A gift card to the
nearest department store for post-holiday bargains means the recipient can
build a better shoe repertoire -- "And who doesn't love that?" Meghan asks.

-- Make their holidays -- and shoes -- bright. If there's one thing that
every shoe aficionado needs, it's to protect and maintain the investment by
polishing his or her shoes. "I found the perfect shoe polisher for both
men and women -- Buff 'n Shine(TM)," Meghan explains. "Hands never touch
the polish and the shine takes about a minute!"

Polished shoes impact image. Meghan says, "Shining shoes is one fashion cue women can take from men. Shabby shoes can kill an outfit. With Buff 'n Shine she can literally touch up her shoes as she's heading out the door, without ruining her manicure because hands stay polish-free."

For men, well-maintained shoes are important for projecting self-confidence. Buff 'n Shine makes it easy to have polished shoes all of the time, and is faster and cheaper than getting shoes professionally shined.

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...
The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
