Crash course in Cloud Faxing, Technologies and whats Important !

Let’s face it, Faxing is boring! With a history of over 100 years and a patent that goes back to 1843, Faxing is now considered an outdated, older cousin of the internet. To many Fax maybe something they have never used, or seldom used, but the reality is far from that.

Fax continues to be a dominant communication technology in Business. Based a on a recent industry survey, there are more than 46 million fax machines worldwide with over 17 Billion faxes sent across the world every year ! Fax is central to ensuring that your communication reaches the recipients in an untouched, direct, unaltered manner. Fax is also considered to be real time, purely based on the fact that a fax sent from one location appears at the recipient’s location instantly without delays. The significance of this small fact holds a lot of weight !

Let me run you through a crash course in todays Fax technologies and tell you the most important things you should know. Here we go;

Store & Forward Faxing Technology

With the emergence of online faxing technologies and new methods of faxing, organizations are still wary of using some of the new internet fax technologies and rightfully so because these are primarily based on store and forward technology where the faxes are received at an intermediary data center / or fax center, stores on the servers for a few milli-seconds and then routed to the recipients through whatever technology the fax provider employs. This is a great system that works for millions of users worldwide, but contrary to popular belief, this system has a huge flaw that breaks a few major privacy laws and regulations in the developed countries, especially the United States, Canada and Europe.

So what is Real Time Faxing ?

True Real time faxing is different technology than the traditional Store and Forward. Real time faxing ensures that the fax sent at one end is received simultaneously on the other end, without being stores at an intermediate location. Real Time faxing is much secure, ensures data privacy and embraces the true value of secure communications.

Why SIP ?

SIP or Session Initiation Protocol is a Internet Protocol (just like its cousins HTTP, TCP, UDP etc) protocol used specifically for Voice and Video calls over IP networks. Able to provide specific functionality, data security and encryption options, SIP is a highly reliable protocol that can be used for multiple communications needs. Faxing over SIP is a natural progression of using the technology for something simple such as online Faxing, the idea being that in order to eliminate the need for a store and forward fax, secure internet technology able to provide an ideal transport for internet based faxes should be available that. SIP is also easy to implement than Analog lines and the cost savings with SIP are much more in magnitude.
