WebLogic Server Enables "Smart" Approach to Real-Time Load Balancing

(January 15, 2002) - AT&T, AIG, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, Chase Manhattan Corp., Citibank, DoubleClick, Eastman Chemical, E*TRADE, Federal Express, France Telecom, Nippon Steel..it may sound like an ABC of famous Global 1000 businesses but in fact it's a list of just some of the worldwide companies that rely for their mission-critical, e-business initiatives on Sunnyvale, California-based Resonate Inc.

Already the provider of award winning "active" service level management solutions for e-business applications, Resonate announced this week that, together with BEA Systems Inc., the company has successfully completed interoperability testing between Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 and BEA WebLogic Server.

Resonate Central Dispatch complements the availability and scalability features within BEA WebLogic Server - going above and beyond other traffic management products by performing resource-based load balancing, explained Karen Styres, Resonate's vice president of marketing and business development.

"Many of our leading enterprise customers use BEA WebLogic Server as a cornerstone for their e-business infrastructure," Styres continued. "As a member of the BEA Star Partner Program, we are always looking for ways to build on the value of our combined solutions. We believe Resonate and BEA deliver the availability and scalability required for mission-critical e-business applications, providing customers with unparalleled high availability and performance for their BEA WebLogic environments," she said.

Explaining that Resonate Central Dispatch software is an intelligent LAN-based software traffic management product, Styres added that Resonate is also providing BEA customers a fully functional, 3-node version of Resonate Central Dispatch 4.0 as a free Web download, subject to applicable licensing restrictions.

According to Styres, Resonate Central Dispatch complements the availability and scalability features within BEA WebLogic Server, going above and beyond other traffic management products by performing resource-based load balancing. In contrast to hardware load balancers, which use a variety of algorithms to guess available resources, Resonate Central Dispatch is the only traffic management product available, she says, that takes into account the actual resources available on the BEA WebLogic Server. "This results in more intelligent load balancing decisions. Information gathered by the Resonate Central Dispatch agents can intelligently send client traffic to the least loaded server in the cluster by extracting real-time metrics from the server."

The ties between Resonate and BEA don't stop with Central Dispatch, either. Resonate also offers a Resonate Command Module for BEA WebLogic Server, which focuses on BEA-specific metrics and monitors them closely for signs of performance or overall health problems. Working in conjunction with the Command Module, the Resonate Commander Solutions actively monitor, and then take real-time control of, the various components of the e-business infrastructure, including custom applications built on BEA WebLogic Server.

Resonate Commander Solutions products, Styres concluded, are the only "active" service level management solutions "that proactively enable organizations to define their service level objectives for each e-business application, monitor the distributed e-business environment and assure that applications are available and performing at their best."

Clearly anyone who wants a "BEA-Ready" software traffic management solution need look no further. As a software solution, Resonate Central Dispatch is able to layer onto existing BEA WebLogic Servers and provide instant high availability and increased performance without adding additional hardware or requiring network changes.

This streamlines operating efficiency by reducing complexity and decreasing administration time. Using Resonate Central Dispatch software agents, Resonate uniquely collects information on the health and performance of BEA WebLogic Servers, enabling detection of bottlenecks and the most accurate distribution of e-business transactions. Central Dispatch can then control user traffic and direct users to the most available resources for the service being accessed.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
