New Software from BEA Helps Solve Enterprise Information Integration

New Software from BEA Helps Solve Enterprise Information Integration

(November 7, 2002) - Access to real-time information is critical to the process of making business decisions, but until now, complex programming or enterprise application integration projects may have been needed to get required data. BEA has just released new software to address this problem. Liquid Data for WebLogic is designed to provide integrated views of enterprise information from virtually any data source: databases, XML files, Web applications, integration adapters and more.

As Mark Carges, president, BEA Enterprise Framework Division, explained to WLDJ, "Liquid Data is a technology that allows the user to go to various data sources within the enterprise, to build logical and unified views of customers, of orders, or whatever it might be. In the past, accessing those data sources and bringing them together to build a unified view was something you couldn't do."

Carges continued, "If you are serving a customer and wanted to see all the profile information, current orders, promotions you've done in their area, and so on, bringing that all together is something you can't do by writing a lot of code: hard-coding tends to be very fragile. Liquid Data gives you an XML schema view of those back-end systems, regardless of their type, and that allows you to use XQuery, to yield an XML document. The fact that the document may have been drawn from three of four systems is transparent to the Liquid Data user. It's a great way to have a service-oriented architecture in conjunction with a business process tool."

The basic problem being addressed, Carges told WLDJ, is how to gain real-time access to operational data. "In the past, to get these single views of customers, you might have built that into your data warehouse system. But that really isn't your operational data source, it doesn't solve accessing particular records for this customer, for this order. Liquid Data goes in and solves this, aggregating information for a unified view. This augments BEA's ability as an infrastructure provider to solve integration problems in a more holistic way. We're taking a leadership position by not only providing traditional EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) tools such as business process transformation and adapters, but solving data level and information level integration (Enterprise Information Integration, or EII) by using Liquid Data as a new tool complementing that."

BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic can provide real-time information visibility to front-office applications, such as customer self-service portals, customer service and support, and supply chain applications. The possible impact of BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic can be seen in financial services organizations that serve their customers in branch offices, online, and through call centers. Providing consistent, real-time customer service is almost impossible in these demanding environments, which are often plagued by costly custom-coded, proprietary software, or rely solely on batch-oriented, analytic warehouses.

Key features to BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic include:

  • Real-time universal data access allows businesses to retrieve data from legacy and Web applications, databases, integration adapters, flat files, XML files, and more
  • Ability to leverage corporate assets through reusable and flexible data views by different applications to help businesses adapt to changing requirements
  • Investment protection by leveraging a standards-based solution built on J2EE, Web services, and XML
  • Highly optimized real-time data access and data processing inside and outside firewalls, regardless of source location, format, or type

BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic is available from www.bea.com as an add-on to BEA WebLogic Platform 7.0, BEA WebLogic Server 7.0, BEA WebLogic Integration 7.0 and BEA WebLogic Portal 7.0.

If a machine can invent, does this mean the end of the patent system as we know it? The patent system, both in the US and Europe, allows companies to protect their inventions and helps foster innovation. However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be set to disrupt the patent system as we know it. This talk will examine how AI may change the patent landscape in the years to come. Furthermore, ways in which companies can best protect their AI related inventions will be examined from both a US and...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
