GemStone Systems(TM) Releases GemFire(R) JDBC Interceptor to Improve the Scalability and Performance of Ubiquitous Java Applications

GemStone Systems(TM) Releases GemFire(R) JDBC Interceptor to Improve the Scalability and Performance of Ubiquitous Java Applicat

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- GemStone Systems, Inc., a leading infrastructure software company, today announced the availability of GemFire JDBC Interceptor, a pluggable extension for GemFire Enterprise that is used to tune database access performance without requiring any modification to the application code. GemFire JDBC Interceptor enables Java developers to improve the performance and scalability of Java-based applications by reducing data latencies and improving the overall performance of databases.

GemFire JDBC Interceptor features a JDBC(TM) 2.0 driver that allows the user to monitor any JDBC application for SQL queries, configure individual queries or patterns of queries, and distribute database query result-sets in-memory and/or disk across multiple nodes. With the JDBC compliant driver, there is no impact to the application code and application performance can be tuned in real-time. The JDBC driver shields the user from having to use the GemFire Enterprise cache APIs explicitly.

"A product that significantly improves performance and scalability, and can be inserted into existing Java-based applications without any changes to the application code, greatly benefits GemStone's customers," stated Shankar Iyer, executive vice president of strategy and marketing at GemStone Systems. "This product extension ideally complements GemFire environments that are typically deployed in a distributed environment across an enterprise."

GemFire JDBC Interceptor exposes all SQL being generated by an application and summarizes this information in a simple, easy to understand graphical user-interface. The product instantly identifies excessive or long-running SQL statements generated by code in development. This early visibility allows performance problems to be corrected early in the development cycle, when performance tuning is dramatically less time-consuming and costly. Developers can rapidly isolate and correct performance problems with every build by analyzing the SQL generated by unit tests and looking for newly introduced code that may be causing performance problems.

GemFire JDBC Interceptor immediately commits data to the database when an update occurs, which ensures the integrity of the data. When a query result set is not found in the cache, the driver fetches it from the backend data source and stores it in the cache before returning it to the user. Retrieving results from the in-memory cache greatly enhances the performance of Java and J2EE applications by avoiding roundtrips to the database. By reducing the number of hits to the database, the overall performance of databases are also improved.

About GemFire Enterprise

GemFire Enterprise is a high performance data services solution that makes data available on demand to applications regardless of underlying data sources or formats. GemFire is built on one of the industry's fastest and most reliable high performance data distribution and caching system that is proven in mission-critical programs in financial services, telecommunications, logistics and the federal government.

GemFire Enterprise maintains data in multiple formats whether its objects, database tables or flat data structures and allows applications and users to interface with the fabric in a seamless, non-intrusive manner. It also ensures the high availability of data through mechanisms like mirroring and data replication and provides the basis for a reliable data infrastructure.

GemFire Enterprise connects to databases, application stores, analytic tools, messaging systems and mainframes, enabling the deployment of high-performance service-oriented architectures at significantly lower costs. Inserted into existing system architectures will result in reduced data latency bottlenecks, scalability of existing systems to a larger number of users, and increased performance for new application server, portal and integration deployments.

Availability

GemFire JDBC Interceptor is available now, and distributed as an add-on to GemFire Enterprise. For more information, contact [email protected].
