Event Slated to Open in Santa Clara September 27-29

Alfred Chuang, who founded BEA Systems, Inc., in early 1995 with
Bill Coleman and Ed Scott, will be one of three keynote speakers at BEA World 2005, to be held in Santa Clara, CA September 27-29. Other keynotes will be delivered by BEA's CTO Mark Carges and by Intel Senior Fellow Richard Wirt.
Chuang had managed just about every aspect of BEA by the time he became CEO in October 2001. He had led the areas of finance, sales, services, engineering, product development, MIS, corporate development, business planning, developer services, human resources and global operations. He had been BEA's chief technology officer, executive vice president of product development, president of BEA WebXpress, president of business operations, and president and chief operating officer. In August 2002, in addition to CEO, Mr. Chuang became BEA's chairman of the board. All three BEA co-founders came from Sun Microsystems, Inc. He held management positions in the critical areas of software product development, network infrastructure, systems architecture, and operations management. As founder and head of the computer resources center for Sun Intercontinental Operations, he helped establish key subsidiaries in the Pacific Rim. Mr. Chuang was also director of the strategic systems group in Sun's Information Resources Organization, and finally corporate director and chief scientist of SunIntegration Services. Mark Carges has been with BEA for more than eight years, and has been instrumental in leading the strategy, development and integration of several BEA products. Prior to his position as CTO, Mr. Carges was Executive Vice President of Strategic Global Accounts, responsible for the leadership and execution of programs that effectively built, expanded, and maintained strong and sustainable relationships with key BEA global customers.In his current role as CTO, Mr. Carges continues to foster BEA's commitment to technological innovations and open standards. Combining a background in technology with extensive experience with customers, his priority will be to continue to exceed customer expectations. Prior to his role in sales, Mr. Carges led the Enterprise Framework Division responsible for BEA's platform product lines, including BEA WebLogic Integration, BEA WebLogic Workshop, BEA WebLogic Portal and BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic. Richard Wirt is vice president, Intel Senior Fellow and general manager of Intel Corporation’s Software and Solutions Group. The Software and Solutions group is responsible for enabling Intel Architecture products through ISV enabling, solutions enabling, core system software enabling, and providing leading-edge products such as compilers, libraries, and tools that allow customers to get the full performance benefit of Intel architectures.Wirt received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma and has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics. He joined Intel in 1981 as part of the Intel team that worked with IBM on software for the first IBM PC platform. He has been instrumental in creating and enhancing the value of Intel’s silicon and platforms through innovation in software technology. Wirt made extensive contributions in the success of multiple generations of Intel processors and spearheaded early efforts to port UNIX to the Intel Architecture, including Intel-based multiprocessor systems. He was first named an Intel Fellow in 1990 and promoted to an Intel Senior Fellow in 2002, the highest rank for technologists in Intel, for his significant contributions in operating systems and compilers and more recently in getting this support across the Intel processors spanning communications and computing. He has one patent pending.
